Infection Prevention Week 2021

Infection prevention week aims to highlight the different ways of controlling and minimising the transmissibility of bacteria and viruses. In light of the pandemic, not only is this extremely topical but the messages of this initiative have now expanded across the globe.

One of the most effective methods to reduce the spread of infections is ultraviolet germicidal light technology (UVC). UVC is a disinfection method that uses short-wavelength ultraviolet light to kill all microorganisms. Dakro Environmental has been leading the surge of UVC technology in the UK, and has been using UV-C to kill many forms of microorganisms and bacteria, including the most topical pathogen, COVID-19.

It has been reported by the CIBSE (Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers) that UV-C can help in the battle to reduce the spread of viruses such as COVID-19. In recent testing conducted by Boston University and Philips Signify UVC lighting products “The researchers applied a dose of UV light… this resulted in a reduction of the SARS-CoV-2 virus of 99% in six seconds”. Covid-19 is very susceptible to UV-C exposure, as are all microorganisms.

Dakro Environmental are official partners and installers with Philips Signify UVC products and have a full range of applications designed to inactivate microorganisms in the air, in water and on surfaces. From UVC disinfection lamps to sterilise the air and surfaces in a room out-of-hours, to UVC air purifiers that can be fitted into rooms that can help reduce the risk of transmission in real-time at the source of infection, people. It has been scientifically proven that these UV-C products can kill 99.9% of bacteria and viruses.

Products such as the Air purifier can help in the fight against COVID-19 as the virus is airborne and can easily spread in shared indoor spaces. CISBE states the scientific evidence suggests that air cleaners could be part of the solution in minimising transmission risks in indoor environments. Infection prevention week is an important week, particularly in light of the challenges of the pandemic. As part of this initiative, we will be discussing various methods on how UV-C can help you with your day-to-day sterilisation battles and how this technology can play a part in helping to protect your business from the risks of infections.

We all want to try and get back to “normal” and be in the company of others in the workspace, or shopping, or even at the pub. Using cost-effective UV-C air purifiers is the way forward for us all to breath sterilised air and feel so much safer.
